My client and new friend Diane Topping just recently returned from a wellness experience at the Lodge at Woodloch. We had a wonderful talk about her trip; we discussed her “why,” as well as why she believes someone would want to take a wellness vacation, and we dug into all of the details of her stay at the Lodge at Woodloch in Pennsylvania.

Here are a few of my takeaways; please watch or listen for the entire delightful conversation.

Why wellness, and why the Lodge at Woodloch?

After a lifetime of being a workaholic, a caregiver, and a team leader, Diane was retiring and felt it was high time for some much-needed self-care. She envisioned a getaway that would rejuvenate her physically, mentally, and spiritually. She wanted a water element combined with woods and possibly mountains.

Before finding me, Diane had explored options in California, Texas, and Arizona. But she was struggling to find what she wanted, because many of these options had disappointing reviews post-COVID. When I suggested The Lodge at Woodloch, she was captivated by its glowing feedback and positive testimonials. Nestled in the Poconos mountains in Hawley, Pennsylvania, it offers a peaceful retreat centered around a stunning lake, combining the calming essence of water with the grounding tranquility of the woods.

Activities and classes at Woodloch

The Lodge at Woodloch isn’t just another wellness retreat; it's a comprehensive experience. Diane was drawn to its extensive and diverse range of activities—she had over 70 activities to choose from each day! From primitive fire-making and hatchet-throwing to ukulele lessons and art classes, there's something for everyone. Not to mention the wide variety of exercise classes, yoga, and meditation sessions that cater to every level. The Lodge’s art center and cooking classes also add a delightful creative touch to the holistic wellness experience.

The uniqueness of Woodloch

What set the Lodge at Woodloch apart for Diane were their unique spa services that went beyond the usual massages and facials. One of her favorite experiences included shamanic energy balancing and chakra screening, which provided her with intriguing feedback and results that she took back home. She even noticed an increase in animal interactions after one particular session—a testament to the Lodge’s deep connection with nature. Deer, hawks, and even a brave little chipmunk visited her patio, creating memorable moments that added to the magic of her stay.

Room type at Woodloch

Diane’s room type was carefully chosen for its view of the lake and proximity to nature. Stepping onto her private patio, she often found herself face-to-face with the serene wilderness. Having wildlife right outside her room, like deer and the chipmunk, enhanced the restorative ambiance of the lodge.

The Lodge at Woodloch’s no-cellphone policy in public areas added another layer of tranquility to her stay. Unplugging allowed Diane to immerse herself fully in the retreat's offerings, fostering a deeper sense of relaxation and presence.

Traveling solo at Woodloch

Traveling solo for the first time, Diane initially felt like the new kid at summer camp. However, her unease quickly disappeared. The Lodge’s welcoming atmosphere and the camaraderie of fellow guests turned her solo journey into a liberating experience. She made new connections, attended captivating lectures, enjoyed gourmet meals, and even participated in a one-on-one paddleboarding session—a highlight of her trip.

Woodloch recap

The wellness journey at the Lodge at Woodloch was transformative for Diane. It achieved her goal of resetting her stress levels and preparing her for the next chapter in her life. She plans to return next year with her sister, to relive the magical experience.
